Rub-a-Dub Marker.....What does that mean to you?

I might be putting myself out there to get
laughed at, and just opened up the world
of blonde jokes!

Don't worry I am hearing them all from
my kids and husband as we speak!

I am a huge calendar person, with my crazy busy family it
is the best way to keep track of everything and everyone!
I use one to plan my monthly meal plan, one on my fridge that matches the one on the wall...that matches the one on my
computer that is synced to the one on each of my family members phones.

I WILL SCREAM IT OUT LOUD
I LOVE CALENDARS!!!

So, last month I receive a marker from
Sharpie and a coupon (of course)!

I thought to myself
"how cool, Sharpie makes dry erase markers now".

I of course put it right to work writting
the September calendar on the fridge....Looked great!

Until yesterday!.....
Yesterday I finally got around to changing the September
calendar to October (yes I know a whole week behind)!

Much to my surprise the
Black Rub-a-Dub Sharpie would not come off my board.
Usually a little water and a paper towel will do the trick,
not working, I grab an all-purpose cleaner (this should work)!
NO, still not coming off!

So, I get on the phone with Sharpie to see what the deal is,
Yes, I already feel stupid that I can't figure out how to opperate
a white board marker.

Here is the conversation had with Jill from Sharpie:

Jill: Thank you for calling Sharpie.  How can I help you?
Me: I can't get your dry erase marker off my white board.
Jill: Dry erase marker?
Me: Yes, dry erase marker.  Last month you sent my your new dry erase marker with a coupon; I used it and now it won't come off.  Did I leave it on to long?
Jill: Ma'am we don't make dry erase markers!
Me: Yes you do!  You sent me one!  I am holding it right now.
Jill: Does it say Sharpie on it?
Me: Of course it does!  I wouldn't call you if it wasn't yours!
Jill: Does it say anything else on it?
Me: It says Sharpie in big letter and next to that it
says Rub-a-Dub.
Jill: You mean Rub-a-Dub Laundary Marker?
Me: What?
Jill: Does it also say Laundary Marker under Rub-a-Dub?
Me: Yes it does; so I'm not crazy you do make dry erase markers?!
Jill: Ma'am, that pen is a Laundary Marker, it is
ultra-permanent.  It is intended to not wash out
of clothing or cloth.
Me:  WHY WOULD YOU WANT THAT TO HAPPEN?!
Jill: Ma'am we had many parents, mostly moms that "tag" their childrens clothes so they don't get lost at school.
Me: Thats a great idea!  But why call it Rub-a-Dub?
Jill: I don't know Ma'am, I can get you our marketing team.
Me: No need for that; when I saw Rub-a-Dub I thought that meant it was a dry erase marker.  I used it for just that and now my white board is ruined.
Jill: I'm sorry Ma'am, what would you like me to do?
Me: send me a coupon for a free white board!
Jill: Ma'am we don't have coupons for white boards.  Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Me: Um....Yes, take Rub-a-Dub off your Laundry Marker.

The results:
an October Calendar that still says September!

  2. I was gonna say Magic Eraser as well. My husband recently had waterproof caulk stuck on his fingers from sealing our patio ourside and it was the only thing that could get it off without doing what everyone else suggested which was gasoline. That was not going to happen.

  3. Have you tried hand sanitizer? I once had that happen...sharpie vs. dry erase marker and hand sanitizer worked!

  4. take a cloth and soak it with alcohol and let it sit on top of the stain for several minutes..make sure it is saturated so the cloth will absorb the stain. Then rub it to finish getting the marker off.

  5. Magic eraser is great! My grandson thought my sharpie was his dry erase marker. It came off great.

  6. Jessica, Use a piece of the green frog painter's tape that we just received in the mail from a previous offer and put a strip over the month. Then as each month changes just pull the tape off for a fresh piece.......

  7. Try hairspray and a cloth -- works great for getting pen off of desks.

  8. I don't know about the permanent laundry marker, but I learned this trick from a school teacher for removing most other permanent markers and dry erase boards... To take permanent marker off a dry erase board just color over it with a dry erase marker first it will lift the permanent right off.

If it is stubborn you may have to do it a few times and use some dry earse board spray cleaner but it will work. I use it all the time for changing menus in my business. It it doesn't work for the rub-a-dub I promise it will work for other pemanent markers, try it, it is pretty cool.

  11. I am a teacher and I agree with Bek. The kids often write with permanent marker on the white boards at school. I just use dry erase marker over it and it comes right off. Good luck!

  12. my husband swears that WD-40 is a #1 remedy for most household "oops" :-). It's not going to hurt anything in case marker does not come off. Good luck!

  13. Since you're an extreme couponer might I suggest you cover the markings with some free toothpaste (preferably white paste), after 5 minutes scrub off with one of your free toothbrushes. :-)

  14. Like anonymous posted, use an actual dry-erase marker and rub in small circular motions, while its still wet wipe it off as you go. I've had luck removing permanent marker from magazines and book pages using this technique.Good luck and remember Rub a dub, Rub a dub!

  15. Goof off 2 contains Glycol ethers (111-76-2) and Propanol (notice the (111-76-2) CAS-number* is in this product as well as an alcohol solvent. - Goof off 2 it does the job. Cleans off indelible markers (laundry markers, sharpies, rub-a-dub) used by mistake! ...just in case the dry-erase doesn't do the trick. :)

  16. I would try using rubbing alcohol. I have taken marker off of my lamanent table top before when my kids have worked on a project and the marker bled thru the paper.

  17. I have always used hairspray on sharpie scuffs on the counter. Just let it soak a little then scrub it out.
