I invite you to get involved and join us for the fun!
Last month I got a heartfelt call from Silvia at the Salvation Army. She had seen what wonderful things all you wonderful couponers and I had accomplished for the Idaho Food Bank in May and was asking for help. Of course I said absolutely, let’s chat…..
To be honest I was just thinking we would be putting on a food drive to add to their supply…..not even close! I had no idea that when she called me it was a desperate cry for help. She gave me a tour of the Salvation Army and showed me their pantry; it brought tears to my eyes. Seriously, I have a larger stockpile to take care of my family of 6 then the Salvation Army has to take care of hundreds of families. They have gone from giving out 31 boxes of food a month in 2010 to 168 boxes in 2011. That is an 82% jump in families in need. “It’s not only the impoverished who need assistance any longer, but the working poor who are struggling to make ends meet” said Captain Aurelio Ambriz.
The Salvation Army helps everyone…..and I mean everyone. They do not discriminate; there are no minimum requirements to meet in order to qualify for help; if you are in need they are there for you no matter what. They are able to do this by generous donations made throughout the year and Bell Ringers during the holidays. The Caldwell location is the largest distributor of food of all the Treasure Valley Salvation Army locations; they cover Caldwell, Middleton, Notus, Parma, Wilder and Greenleaf. This is what makes the Salvation Army so amazing and now very dear to my heart.
They are always in need of food but, they are in dire need of toiletry items. Most of the people asking for help are on food stamps which still do not allow them to by the necessities like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant. Which happen to be things that a couponer always has an abundance of; so this is where I need your help!
On Wednesday, August 10th at 11:30 a.m. we will be having a ribbon cutting at the Salvation Army in Caldwell to kick off Couponing for a Cause. This event will end on Saturday, September 17th at the Indian Creek Festival held in Caldwell. Every Monday for the next 5 weeks I will be posting the shopping trip that I will be doing so you all can follow along and shop like me. I will be creating a new stockpile that I will be donating to The Salvation Army at the end of the event.
Want in on all the amazing giveaways that we will have?! It’s easy…just donate! When you come to donate your items at our Couponing for a Cause Booth in the Indian Creek Festival you will be given tickets that you can use to enter the drawings of your choice.
So get clipping…Start stockpiling….Join us to make a difference!
